By federal law, everyone with a vehicle is required to have car insurance. Whether you're paying per month, every six months drivers or annually, drivers are looking for ways to save money. Here are some discounts to ask you independent insurance agent about.
Many discounts relate to your driving record. Individuals with good driving records aren’t likely to pay as much as a reckless driver. Companies reward responsible drivers with discounts that reward accident-free drivers, those who use little mileage and those who have completed defensive driving classes.
Discounts are specialized for teens and college students as well. If your son or daughter is a responsible driver, discounts are available for their good behavior and/or good grades, such as:
Some are based on the vehicle you drive. While the actual vehicle won't save you money, the features you install will. Car features such as airbags, daytime lights and anti-lock brakes are money-savers. Car systems like vehicle tracking, vehicle recovery and electronic stability are discounted. Security features like anti-theft alarms and crash-resistant doors can save you money too. In addition, adding more than one car on the same policy saves you a bundle.
Other discounts are based on your lifestyle. Some changes happened naturally (getting married, moving or retiring). Others can happen by making a few changes (going green/paying online, using a credit union or maintain a good credit history). The others are listed below.
This is the standard list of car insurance discounts offered. Your agent may know of additional discounts that aren't listed. Our goal is to save you as much money as possible by claiming the discounts you deserve.
